The Communal Council of Chaudfontaine has approved the creation of a Communal Citizen Convention (CCC), a new body designed to involve residents in local decision-making.

A new step towards more participatory democracy is being taken in Chaudfontaine. The Communal Council has given its approval for the establishment of a Communal Citizen Convention (CCC). This initiative will allow residents, selected by lottery, to actively contribute to discussions on the commune's challenges and public policies.
Previously, the commune had advisory bodies for children, youth, and seniors, but no formal space existed for citizens aged 18 to 65. The CCC aims to fill this gap by providing an inclusive and deliberative forum for dialogue between residents over 16 and local authorities. This aligns with the Communal Policy Declaration and the Transversal Strategic Program, reinforcing democratic representation within the commune.
Mayor Daniel Bacquelaine highlighted that this initiative fulfills a commitment made to voters in 2024. The Convention will comprise 27 effective members and alternates, chosen by lottery to ensure balanced representation of Chaudfontaine's population. These members will convene several times a year to debate topics of communal interest and formulate recommendations for local authorities.
To ensure the quality of discussions, participants will receive tailored information and support. The recommendations made will be officially submitted to the College and the Communal Council, who will provide a reasoned response regarding any subsequent actions.
Through this approach, Chaudfontaine continues to develop its existing citizen participation tools and reaffirms its commitment to involving all residents in local public life. The operational launch is scheduled for early 2027, following an information phase and the lottery draw for future members.
