The Province of Liège will compensate the 110 farmers who voluntarily intervened during the summer's Hautes-Fagnes fire, offering financial assistance to cover their expenses.

Following the severe fire that destroyed nearly 3,400 hectares in the heart of summer in the Hautes-Fagnes, the Province of Liège has decided to support local farmers. These professionals spontaneously and voluntarily assisted in fighting the flames, notably by creating firebreaks with their agricultural machinery and supplying water to firefighters.
The intervention of these 110 farmers, praised for their spirit of mutual aid, nevertheless incurred costs. To recognize their commitment, the Province of Liège, in collaboration with Wallonia, is offering a compensation of €750.00 to each of them.
Affected farmers will be required to submit a claim declaration to the Province of Liège. The link for this process will be provided by their respective Communes, including those impacted by the disaster: Waimes, Malmedy, Jalhay, Bütgenbach, and Baelen.
André Denis, Provincial Deputy in charge of Agriculture, highlighted the importance of this aid: « This is support to acknowledge the mutual aid that the agricultural sector always demonstrates, proving once again that it is an essential player in our landscapes! »
