The Province of Liège will compensate 110 farmers who helped combat the fire that devastated nearly 3,400 hectares of the Hautes-Fagnes this summer.

In response to the extensive wildfire that destroyed nearly 3,400 hectares of the Hautes-Fagnes, a significant natural area in the Province of Liège, the intervention of local farmers proved crucial. These professionals acted voluntarily, creating firebreaks with their agricultural machinery and providing vital support to the firefighters.
Their spontaneous and selfless efforts, however, incurred costs. To acknowledge their contribution, the Province of Liège, in partnership with Wallonia, has decided to offer compensation of €750.00 to each of the 110 involved farmers.
Eligible farmers will be required to submit a claim to the Province of Liège. The link for this process will be provided by their respective Communes, including those affected by the disaster: Waimes, Malmedy, Jalhay, Bütgenbach, and Baelen.
