This Sunday, October 25th, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège celebrates World Opera Day under the theme 'Opera Connects', highlighting artistic encounters and collaborations.

The 2026 edition of this day takes on a special dimension in Belgium with the 'Opera at Home / Opera bij je thuis' initiative, presented by RTBF and VRT. On their digital platforms RTBF Auvio and VRT MAX, the two public broadcasters will offer a free selection of recordings from three Belgian opera houses: La Monnaie, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.
This collaboration embodies the 'Opera Connects' theme, aiming to transcend geographical and linguistic borders to share lyrical art with the widest possible audience. Opera is presented as an art of encounter, bringing together artists, disciplines, and multiple skills, where voices and productions cross borders.
The Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège is participating with three productions: Giuseppe Verdi's 'La Traviata', Johann Strauss II's 'Die Fledermaus' (The Bat), and Vincenzo Bellini's 'La Sonnambula'. These works, with their diverse artistic universes, showcase the richness of the lyrical repertoire.
The recordings will be accompanied by editorial content, articles, and podcasts to deepen the discovery of the works and their characters. This initiative invites the public to extend the lyrical experience from home, free of charge, starting October 25th, 2026, on RTBF Auvio.
