The municipality of Raeren is launching its annual rat control campaign in partnership with Anticimex. The goal is to prevent the proliferation of these pests through coordinated action and citizen participation. The campaign will run from December 7 to December 16, 2026.
The municipality encourages residents to adopt good practices to limit food sources for rats. It is advisable to store household waste properly, putting out household waste and blue bags only on the day of collection, and always keeping bins closed. It is also recommended not to dispose of food scraps via the toilet or sink. For composting, cooked food, meat, fish, or bone scraps should not be added, and the use of closed compost bins or composters with tightly fitting lids is preferred.
Pet feeding should also be secured. It is best to feed pets indoors or remove outdoor food scraps immediately after feeding. Pet food should be stored in tightly sealed containers. For bird feeding, the use of rat-proof feeders and preventing food from falling to the ground are recommended, as even small amounts can attract rats.
The municipality emphasizes that reducing food sources is crucial for limiting rat reproduction. Residents are asked to report any sightings of rats on public grounds to the municipal administration so that targeted measures can be implemented. Rat control is free for Raeren residents on their private properties as part of this campaign; registration with the municipal administration is required.
For inquiries, the contact person is Ms. J. Croé from the Planning/Environmental Service, reachable at 087/85.89.73. Outside of the municipal rat control campaigns, residents can obtain small portions of rat poison at the registration office, open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Tuesdays from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and Wednesdays from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. This poison must be used exclusively on private property and never on public grounds.
