Bees and other pollinating insects play a crucial role in our ecosystems and food supply. By pollinating numerous plants, including crops and fruit trees, they contribute to biodiversity. In Amay, the municipality encourages everyone to act to provide them with a favorable environment.
Since 2011, the Plan Maya has aimed to support these insects by developing flowery meadows, planting fruit trees, and creating hedges. Since 2021, these actions have been integrated into the Walloon program BiodiverCité.
There's no need to drastically transform your garden. Even a small space, a terrace, or a balcony can become welcoming for pollinators through a few simple gestures:
• Plant nectar-rich flowers such as lavender, thyme, sage, borage, or sunflowers.
• Leave a small area flowery or less mown to encourage wild flowers.
• Avoid insecticides and opt for natural solutions.
• Plant trees or hedges that support biodiversity.
• Provide a water source with a few twigs to prevent insects from drowning.
