The Rorive neighborhood in Amay is set for a major transformation with an ambitious greening and urban development project, supported by a €145,907 subsidy from the Walloon Public Service.

In response to climate challenges, the Municipality of Amay is initiating a project to make the Rorive neighborhood more pleasant and climate-adapted. Greening efforts will reduce heat islands, improve air quality, promote biodiversity, better manage rainwater, and create more meeting and relaxation spaces, while enhancing safety and soft mobility. The neighborhood will eventually feature more trees, plants, and green areas, with a significant reduction in concrete surfaces.
The future layout is envisioned as a large park crossing the neighborhood, organized around three complementary spaces: a dynamic area with children's games and sports equipment; a convivial space for community activities and citizen gatherings; and a quieter, heavily vegetated relaxation area for strolling and rest. Benches, tables, and landscaping will complete this intergenerational space accessible to all.
This project began with resident involvement in 2025 through a citizen survey. Inhabitants expressed a desire for more green spaces, meeting places, child-friendly infrastructure, and secure areas. Participation will continue through workshops, involving Rorive residents and students from the Rivage communal school in planting and space development.
The project includes planting 36 new trees, creating over 2,300 m² of green surfaces, allowing 85 m³ of rainwater to infiltrate naturally, reducing site impermeability by nearly 23%, and establishing a permeable play area.
Work is scheduled for 2027, following the completion of technical studies and administrative preparations. Residents of the Rorive neighborhood interested in participating in future planting and creation workshops can contact the Public Space Management service at 085/316 615 or planenergieclimat@amay.be.
