Following heavy storms, the Wandre-Souverain cemetery suffered significant damage, leading to its temporary closure for safety and restoration work.

Recent runoff and water flows from the heights above the site have caused considerable damage to the Wandre-Souverain cemetery. For public safety reasons, access was temporarily restricted and then closed to allow for necessary interventions.
These events resulted in the collapse of parts of the boundary walls, displacement of materials and debris, damage to several graves, and instability in certain areas of the cemetery. Several operations have been carried out since the incident to secure the site, including the reconstruction of damaged boundary walls and the gradual restoration of pathways.
Restoration work on the cemetery is currently ongoing. Further interventions are needed to finalize the repair of damaged graves, the landscaping of pathways, and the complete rehabilitation of areas impacted by the bad weather. The City of Liège is making every effort to complete these operations as quickly as possible and thanks families and visitors for their understanding.
