The City of Eupen is launching a new edition of its free flower seeding campaign, 'More Flowers. More Bees. More Future.', to encourage the creation of flower meadows and support biodiversity.

The City of Eupen sincerely thanks all citizens who participated in the free flower seeding campaign this summer. Around 50 participants created new flower meadows covering approximately 1,350 m² in their gardens, making a valuable contribution to species diversity within the city. Despite challenging weather conditions, a remarkable variety of flowers was achieved, with many blooming thanks to late summer rains.
The great success of the campaign – with not all requests being met in the spring – has led to a relaunch. Under the motto 'More Flowers. More Bees. More Future.', the city aims to create further flowering islands for bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects in 2027, together with engaged citizens.
Interested citizens can now register for the next free distribution of flower seeds. This complimentary seed mix is suitable for private gardens and will provide colorful flowering areas during the summer.
Registration is via an online form. This can be used both to request seeds for establishing a new flower meadow and to order reseeding for an existing area. Participation conditions include a minimum area of 5 m² and a maximum of 50 m², submitting a photo of the area before sowing, submitting a photo of the blooming flower meadow, and acknowledging the information and care instructions on www.eupen.be. The number of available seed packages is limited.
With each newly created flower meadow, the network of habitats for pollinating insects grows throughout the city. The City of Eupen looks forward to many more participants and thanks them in advance for their commitment to a diverse and livable environment.
For those planning to convert a lawn into a flower meadow in the spring, the city suggests simplifying the process: mow the lawn short, lay out two layers of brown cardboard without tape, overlapping well, weigh down the cardboard with stones or compost, and leave it over winter. In spring, check, rake away loose plant debris, and if necessary, remove the remaining turf. For nutrient-rich soils, sand can be worked into the topsoil before sowing to slightly reduce fertility. The cardboard remnants can then be shredded and gradually added to the compost.
