The City of Huy is launching an awareness and enforcement campaign to combat garbage bins left on public roads outside of collection days, beginning in the Gare district.

To address the issue of garbage bins remaining on public roads outside of collection times, the City of Huy has decided to launch an action plan that will start with an awareness phase and continue with an enforcement phase.
The Gare district was chosen for this first campaign, as it is one of the areas where this problem is most significant, based on field reports from our Enforcement Officers. The streets concerned are: Rue St-Pierre (134 occupied buildings) - Rue des Jardins (133) - Avenue Albert 1er (171) - Rue sur Meuse (49) - Rue de la Couronne (28) - Rue Ste-Ivette (90).
An awareness action will take place from October 27 to 29. Peacekeepers will distribute a letter reminding residents of the rules regarding waste collection in all mailboxes of the targeted streets. This letter recalls Article 97, § 2 of the General Police Regulations, which outlines the conditions for placing chip bins on public roads and the potential penalties, up to an administrative fine of €500.
Following this distribution, the following actions will be carried out: a census of bins on public roads by Peacekeepers, and targeted postal mailings to heads of households whose bins have been identified on public roads outside of collection days, informing them of their infraction and requesting they rectify the situation by removing bins outside of collection days.
The enforcement phase will then begin with Enforcement Officers issuing fines to owners whose bins remain on public roads despite the awareness and warning letters. In early 2027, officers will revisit the streets to measure the long-term impact of the measure. Other districts in the city experiencing this problem will be subject to the same awareness and enforcement action plan in the coming months.
