Due to the ongoing drought, the public is asked to exercise special caution and use drinking water economically. The risk of forest and vegetation fires remains high. It is requested to avoid any actions that could trigger fires, especially when grilling, handling fire, or working with sparks.
Following police decrees from the Governor of the Province of Liège, the following measures apply throughout the province: Any use or handling of fire in woodlands, forests, pastures, fields, agricultural land, fallow land, heathland, brushwood, dry vegetation, standing grain, stubble, harvest areas, coppices, embankments, and natural areas, and within 100 meters thereof, is prohibited. Burning green waste and agricultural residues is forbidden. The use of thermal weed killers and other spark-generating materials is prohibited. The ignition of any fireworks and the release of sky lanterns are forbidden. Discarding cigarettes or other smoldering or flammable items is also prohibited.
Grilling and cooking with open flames outdoors are only permitted under the following safety precautions: The grilling or cooking device must be placed in a location where there is no risk of fire spreading to vegetation or other flammable elements (hedges, trees, wooden fences, flammable materials, etc.). The fire pit must be continuously supervised until the embers have completely cooled and be at a sufficient distance from vegetation. Suitable extinguishing agents must be readily available and immediately deployable in case of uncontrolled ignition.
At the same time, an appeal is made to all citizens to continue to use our drinking water responsibly and sparingly. Water consumption should be limited to the necessary level to ensure supply security in the coming weeks. Every contribution helps protect our natural resources and reduce risks to people, the environment, and infrastructure. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
