The Verviers cemetery, located on Rue de la Cité, is being modernized with the creation of a 'cavurnes' area and renovation of the multi-confessional space to better accommodate families.

The cemetery in Verviers, situated on Rue de la Cité, is undergoing several developments to meet evolving funeral practices and provide a suitable setting for remembrance. A new zone for 'cavurnes' has been established, designed to hold one to four urns per buried grave. This feature particularly addresses the needs of families seeking a place of remembrance after cremation. This type of development, in line with Walloon Region requirements, already exists in Petit-Rechain and Ensival and will be progressively offered in other cemeteries.
The multi-confessional zone, located in the cemetery's extension, has also been redeveloped. A new roadway has been created, and the space dedicated to burials has been reorganized and renovated to accommodate various funeral traditions.
Furthermore, the City is selling, under certain conditions, recovered and reusable gravestones. These are visible in aisle 34, accessible via the entrance on Rue du Tir. For information, contact Hervé Henrotay at 0494 51 48 02, Sylvano Mirolo at 0494 51 48 03, or the Civil Status office at 087 325 242 and inhumations@verviers.be.
These improvements are part of the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of all Verviers cemeteries, covering a total of 17 hectares. These sites include Stembert, Stembert église, Ensival 1, Ensival 2, Lambermont, Petit-Rechain, Heusy, Heusy église, and Hodimont.
