On October 1, 2026, the International Day of Older Persons, themed « A New Era of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives », provided an opportunity for the City of Huy to take stock of its services for seniors. In Huy, individuals aged 65 and over represent 22% of the population, and those aged 55 and over, 35%.
The Communal College used this day to present a new survey focused on the perception of elder abuse. Initiated by the Consultative Communal Council for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities (CCCAPH), this initiative aims to better understand the experiences and concerns of Huy's seniors.
The CCCAPH, an advisory body, allows seniors and persons with disabilities to participate in local life and make their voices heard by the municipal authorities. It works on themes such as mobility, health, well-being, citizen participation, and inclusion.
The abuse survey, which does not aim to establish a census or assign blame, seeks to gather the perceptions of Huy's seniors regarding situations that may compromise their autonomy, safety, or dignity. It will be accessible online and in paper format from October 1, 2026, and will remain open for several months. The results will be publicly presented on June 15, 2027.
Among the existing services, the City of Huy highlights the University of Available Time (UTD), celebrating its 30th anniversary, offering courses, conferences, and workshops. The non-profit « Le Bel Age Hutois » organizes recreational activities, such as monthly dancing afternoons and day trips, including a visit to the famous Nut Market in Vianden on October 11.
The Senior Services of the CPAS supports isolated seniors and those with reduced autonomy who wish to continue living at home, providing family assistance, home help, meal delivery, and tele-assistance. It also assists with procedures for retirement homes and offers financial aid for institutional accommodation.
The City of Huy also offers taxi vouchers for individuals over 70 without personal transport, those over 60 with BIM status or social insertion income (RIS), and persons with a 50% disability in the lower limbs. The Library and the Digital Public Space (EPN) provide activities and training to foster connection and combat the digital divide.
Finally, the City of Huy organizes its annual Heatwave Plan in collaboration with the CPAS, the Police Zone, and the Hemeco Zone to support vulnerable individuals during periods of extreme heat.
