The initial 400-meter track project, initiated during the previous legislature at the Chinisses site with the support of the Walloon Region, faces questions regarding VAT recovery. Uncertainty about the real cost for the Huy Sports Authority and the City, as well as potential subsidies, makes financial commitment difficult amid growing constraints.
To ensure the infrastructure's feasibility and sustainability, the City and the Authority have chosen to request a project revision from regional authorities. The goal is to maintain the ambition for a 400-meter track, but better adapted to financial capacities, operational possibilities, and local sports needs. This will be done in consultation with the athletics club, schools, and neighboring communes.
The realization of this new version will require confirmation of financial support from the Walloon Region. The City and the Authority will continue discussions with the Infrasports administration to submit a new file and receive regional support.
Concurrently, the City does not want athletes to wait for the 400m project's completion. The Communal College has therefore decided to enhance the renovation program for the current 250-meter track. This more in-depth intervention aims to significantly improve training conditions. Initial work is planned for the second half of 2027.
These two approaches—revising the 400m project and strengthening the existing track's renovation—reflect the commitment of the City of Huy and the Huy Sports Authority to realistically and sustainably develop local athletics, in consultation with sports stakeholders and regional authorities.
